Name: Scott Robinson

Achievement: Business Owner

Year of leaving school: 2011

I was at Canon Lee from 2006 – 2011.

After leaving school I went to York College to study Graphic Design for two years.

I then went to York University to study Graphic Design for three years while working for a local design company, and setting up my own local graphic design business on the side (Vantage Signs & Graphics) at the age of 17.

I finished off university with a BA Hons Bachelor of Arts Degree. By this time I gave up my part time design employment and went straight from University, into my own business that had slowly grown over the three years.

I’m now 23 and still working hard on my business which has transitioned slightly from focusing on design but merging that with signs and graphics. We help companies establish a look and feel for their brand helping them with logo design, stationery design and print etc. We also specialise in Sign manufacture and vehicle graphics, helping business get noticed with brand awareness.

I’ve worked with big names over the years such as British Superbikes, Q hotels, Burberry, JCB, LK Bennett, Kawasaki, Costcutter and celebrity stunt rider Lee Bowers.

A lot of work I have taken on has been heavily motorsport themed, as I have a strong passion for fast cars and bikes. I worked closely with a team in British superbikes, producing designs for two race bikes, which we also printed and fitted ourselves.

When I eventually get a weekend to myself which doesn’t involve anything work related, you’ll usually find me working on a few project cars I have at home in the garage. One of them being a Subaru Impreza track car which I take to various circuits across the UK.

I set up my second company very recently called ‘Vantage Autocare’ which distributes professional car cleaning products designed for high-end performance vehicles.

I now have help with both my businesses from friends who’re also ex-students of Canon Lee and work with me on a part-time basis around their other work commitments.

I would like to thank the staff of Canon Lee for the ongoing support I received through my years of being a student at the school. I don’t think I would be where I am today without them.
