Our Year 10 students undertake work experience during term-time, usually for a one week period in May.

We will work with the students beforehand alongside NYBEP who facilitate the process for us, to help them to find a placement.

We also encourage students to do additional placements and explore the possibility of part-time work at weekends and during holidays, to boost their CVs.

Why do we do work experience?

There are many reasons for doing work experience, including:

  • To develop and understand employability skills
  • To explore a particular interest through employment
  • To experience the workplace
  • For future references / job application forms
  • Possibility of part-time job opportunities

Finding a work placement

Here are some general tips for finding a work placement:

  • Ask your friends and family if they have contacts.
  • Think about the kind of work you’d like to do and what you definitely don’t want to do.
  • Use the NYBEP database – we will give you login information.
  • Remember that you will have to make your own travel arrangements so make sure you find somewhere accessible.
  • Don’t just go for the same placement as your best friend, think about what is best for you.
  • Be prepared to call or email the company/companies you’re interested in.
  • Don’t worry if you’re not successful first time! You might need to ask a few companies before you find the right placement opportunity.
