Vale of York Academy is a developing and thriving secondary school that works in partnerships with further education establishment such as York College, Askham Bryan College, School Sixth forms to provide a rich and rewarding experience from 11-18.

We understand that this is an important decision for a child’s future, so we ensure that we give you the support in making an informed choice.  We hold a formal ‘Open Evening’ every year which is communicated via our feeder schools and the local press. In addition, the Senior Leadership team welcome you to visit the school when parent/carers and students can experience the environment during the normal school day. A visit can be arranged via our main reception.

In-year admissions

Local Authority’s Co-ordinated Admission Scheme

Vale of York Academy participates in the Local Authority’s Co-ordinated Admission Scheme for in-year admissions. If parents/carers wish to apply for a school place, applications can be made at https://www.york.gov.uk/SchoolAdmissions via the ParentPortal. The Local Authority will confirm the outcome of the application in writing within 15 school days.

If the application is refused, the Local Authority will advise on the statutory appeal procedure. Details of the Co-ordinated Admission Scheme and how in-year applications are managed are available at https://www.york.gov.uk/SchoolAdmissions.

Admissions Consultation

All admission authorities must formally agree their admission arrangements every year, even if the arrangements have not changed from the previous year. When changes are proposed, a consultation has to take place, which will take the views of parents and other interested parties into account.

This year’s Admissions Consultation is being jointly held by all admissions authorities in the City of York between 4 October and 14 November 2021. The consultation includes the draft admission policy and planned number of places available at each school in the year(s) of entry.

The views of parent/carers, schools and other interested parties are being sought during this consultation.

Following the consultation, each admission authority will formally set (‘determine’) their admission arrangements for admission in 2023-24 by 28 February 2022. Determined policies will be on the City of York Council website by 15 March 2022 after which objections can be raised.
