Past Head Girl, Emelia Garnett, who has now completed her Gold D of E with us, talks about how the award has helped her:
“The Duke of Edinburgh award is one of the best opportunities The Vale of York Academy has to offer, allowing students to gain team-work skills, a sense of independence and resilience. After already completing Bronze and Silver initially, I have now accomplished my Gold this summer and can’t wait to collect my award from the Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace!
Not only does this award give a sense of achievement, but it’s also highly regarded by employers and universities, allowing my CV and applications to stand out from the rest. It’s no lie that the award can be hard work at times, but it’s so worth it for the amazing memories and experiences that I will remember and cherish for many years to come.
The award has definitely had a huge influence on the person I am today and looking back now I can’t even imagine not taking part.”
